How do I find out if my vehicle has a recall?

Check it right now, free, in about a minute:

  1. Go to nhtsa.gov/recalls — the official federal database.
  2. Enter your VIN (lower left of your windshield, or on your registration or insurance card). A VIN search tells you whether your specific vehicle has an unrepaired recall. A year, make, and model search gives general results for that model.
  3. Any recall is listed with what's wrong and what the fix is.

If there is a recall, the repair is free. NHTSA says the manufacturer provides the recall fix at no charge — call your local dealership to book it.

Why this is worth more than a one-time check

Recalls don't arrive on a schedule. Manufacturers notify owners by mail, and NHTSA says new VINs are added to its database continuously and suggests checking recalls twice a year. Set a reminder and run the check again.
